TRANSFORMATIONAL THEATRE Presents

MUSIC AND MEDITATION FESTIVAL 2024

OPENING CONCERT

7:30 PM, AUGUST 16, SURREY ARTS CENTRE MAINSTAGE

This year we begin our festival with an Indian Classical Music concert on Friday, August 16th at the Surrey Arts Centre featuring sitarist Sharanjeet Singh Mand, with tabla artist, Sunny Matharu and up and coming multi-instrumentalist Nirmal Nair, playing bansuri.  The ensemble will also be joined by guitarist, Vladimir Shokhov. Arrive early to enjoy chai with community members, then sit back as the ensemble creates the mood for the meditative space of the weekend ahead, facilitating sublime states of meditation through music.

MUSIC AND MEDITATION IN THE PARK

12:00 - 5:00 PM, AUGUST 17, BEAR CREEK PARK GARDEN STAGE

This FREE all-day event starts at noon on Saturday, August 17th, at Bear Creek Park Garden Stage.  Enjoy multi-cultural performances as we take a journey through different states of awareness brought about through music and dance, from the earthy rhythms of African drumming by Benin Master Drummer, Yoro Noukoussi to the heart strings of the divine dilruba played masterfully by Baljit Singh accompanied by tabla maestro Amarjeet Singh.  As well as meditative music, Music and Meditation in the Park will include a rhythm workshop, creative activities for children, dance performances and meditation sessions led by Sahaja Yoga BC. The event will end with the vibrant songs of the Sahaj Qawwali group.

Bear Creek Park Garden Stage

This FREE all-day event starts at noon on Sunday, August 20th, at Bear Creek Park Garden Stage. Enjoy a music and meditation workshop by multi-instrumentalists The Nair Brothers accompanied by Akaaljot Dhadda on tabla, indigenous dance by the Wild Moccasin Dancers, Gurukul Sitar Ensemble featuring Sharanjeet Singh Mand, activities for children, dandiya dance, mehndi and more!!

 

Bring your blanket, picnic lunch, and family and enjoy meditative music, Indigenous drumming and dance, meditation workshops and creative activities for children. Participate in the Friendship Round Dance and Dandiya Dance on the lawn in the latter part of the day while enjoying the refreshing atmosphere of the gardens of Bear Creek Park.

 

This event is part of Transformational Theatre’s Music, Movement and Meditation Festival 2023, which will also feature meditation and arts workshops on September 9, 2023.

TRANSFORMATIONAL THEATRE AND SAHAJA YOGA BC present

MUSIC AND MEDITATION FESTIVAL 2022

August 6 & 7 at 

Surrey City Hall Atrium, Centre Stage and Surrey Civic Plaza

This FREE event starts at noon on Saturday, August 6th, at Surrey City Hall. The festival features flute music by Edgar Muenala, indigenous dance by the Wild Moccasin Dancers, Kathak dance performance by Ahana Bhattacharya, meditation workshops with Rani Thompson of Raaga with Rani and multi-instrumentalists The Nair Brothers, activities for children and moms and more!

 The evening concert features sarodist Stephen Day with Amarjeet Singh on tabla and finally, the Sahaj Qawwali group will take the stage to leave the audience full of joy!

Sunday, members of Sahaja Yoga BC will provide outdoor music at the Surrey Civic Plaza and free meditation classes at the Surrey Central Library.

MUSIC AND MEDITATION ONLINE CONCERT 

MAY 1, 2021

Starting with a First Nations welcome ceremony by Kevin Kelly and Michael Kelly Gabriel, audiences will be taken on a journey opening the heart and mind through joyful, spiritual music.  The event will open with a dance by Surrey Yuva Shakti member, Eishitaa Rajeev followed by an introduction to meditation and the Surrey Yuva Shakti Choir. This opportunity to experience deeper joy through the meditative qualities of Western and Indian classical music will continue with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Violinist Jeanette Bernal-Singh accompanied by her daughter Nandini Singh on cello, followed by the Sahaja Yoga Upon All Shores Ensemble and finally sitarist Sharanjeet Singh Mand with Sunny Matharu on tabla.
